The Haunting

Hoia Baciu Forest near Cluj-Napoca is one of Romania’s best-known paranormal landscapes, famous for UFO stories, strange lights, disorientation, and a circular clearing where trees are said not to grow normally. It is a real forest with a modern legend layered over much older woodland.

The forest’s international haunted reputation grew especially after Alexandru Sift’s 1968 alleged UFO photograph. Today it is widely discussed in paranormal tourism, but the site is also ordinary public woodland used by locals, hikers, and guided tours.

Reported activity: People usually describe Hoia Baciu in terms of unease, time loss, strange lights, electronic interference, or the feeling of being watched; the strongest claims remain folklore and paranormal testimony rather than verified history.
