The Haunting

Old Rittenhouse Inn is an operating Bayfield bed-and-breakfast and restaurant in an 1890 Queen Anne Victorian mansion overlooking Lake Superior. Its ghost stories center on a tall white figure on the porch, ballroom-area apparitions, old music, sudden temperature shifts, and a childlike voice reported in the sister lodging building.

The inn's official history says the Rittenhouse home was completed in summer 1890 as a summer residence, and Wisconsin Historical Society records list the property as built in 1890 with inn operations beginning in the 1970s. The business later expanded into additional historic lodging spaces while keeping the main mansion and Landmark Restaurant as the core identity.

Reported activity: Guest accounts mention figures in the Ballroom, an old woman beside a bed, old-time music, cold or hot temperature swings, and a child's voice in the Turret Room at Le Chateau. Because it is an active lodging property, any visit should be as a paying guest or restaurant patron, not an unscheduled investigation.
