The Haunting

President Truman's House is the Harry S Truman National Historic Site home at 219 North Delaware Street in Independence, Missouri. The ghost story is understated: staff and visitors have reportedly seen Harry Truman in the living room or walking outside, layered onto a carefully preserved National Park Service presidential home.

The National Park Service says George Porterfield Gates built the house in 1867 and added a grand addition in 1885. Harry Truman lived there from his 1919 marriage to Bess Wallace until his death on December 26, 1972; Bess continued living there until 1982. The upstairs is restricted because of the house's fragile condition.

Reported activity: Haunted listings mention Truman's apparition inside and outside the home, but the dominant visitor experience is historical interpretation, not ghost touring. The entry should direct readers to NPS hours, tickets, and preservation rules.
